IND vs ENG: India’s seventh straight victory in T20 at Eden Gardens, Abhishek set up for work after Varun, arshdeep
India vs England 1st T20 Highlights: Batting first, England made 132 runs in 20 overs, while Abhishek made 79 runs in 34 balls including five fours and eight sixes on which basis India won the match with three wickets in 12.5 overs and 133 runs.
India won the first T20 match against England by seven wickets as opener Abhishek Sharma played a fiery knock to give the side a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. First, England posted 132/9 in 20 overs; Abhishek then scored 79 off 34 balls including five fours and eight sixes to help India chase the target of 133/3 in 12.5 overs. For England, Joffra Archer bowled well and took two wickets while spinner Adil Rashid bagged one wicket.
Team India has become the joint second team to have consecutive victories on a ground.
This was the seventh successive T20 International victory for India at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. With this, Team India has matched up with Pakistan. In fact, of the 22 matches played on Karachi ground between 2008-21, Pakistan won seven of those matches. The English team is in first place in this regard. In the years between 2010-21, this team has a record of eight straight victories in Cardiff.
Abhishek dominated England.
Looking to improve their bowling figures, Sanju Samson and Abhishek got India off to a decent start and put up 41 runs for the first wicket. But Archer bowled out Samson to no run and then had skipper Suryakumar Yadav for a duck again putting India in trouble. But after this break Abhishek came out in the open and struck a half century in just 20 balls. Abhishek targeted every England bowler. This made Abhishek the third Indian batsman to score a half-century in T20 International in the quickest way possible. Adil Rashid dismissed Abhishek from the crease and that ended his innings. Then Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya put the finishing touch on the victory. Tilak came out undefeated with 19 runs off 16 balls and Hardik also came out undefeated with three runs off four balls.
Indian bowlers wreaked havoc
Earlier, Indian bowlers did a fantastic job led by Varun Chakraborty because of which England was bundled out for 132 runs. Jos buttler played well for England by scoring half century and 68 runs of 44 balls included 8 fours and 2 sixes . Five English batsmen got into double figures and besides Butler, no other England player could perform well. India did not include experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami in the playing-11 for this match, but Arshdeep Singh came to the party and gave India a good start by dismissing two of the visitors early on. After this, Arshdeep broke the record of becoming the most successful bowler for India in T20 Internationals. In what was the most successful innings of his T20I career, Varun played a crucial role in the Indian bowling line-up by claiming three wickets for the side; Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel had got two wickets each.
