Jasprit Bumrah nominated for ICC Player of the Month for the second consecutive time

Indian cricket team’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named ICC Player of the Month for the second time in a row after he continued to provide destructive bowling in India’s hard-fought series in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The ICC released the list of the candidates who could be awarded the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month for December 2024 on Tuesday.

The world’s No.1 ranked Test bowler finished the year as per his performance throughout the year taking 22 wickets in the three Tests he played in December. With Australia gaining in confidence in the series, Bumrah was the lone beacon of hope bagging four for 61 in Adelaide, six for 76 in Brisbane and playing a nine-wicket role in Melbourne which made him achieve the record of being the highest rating point bowler of India. Bumrah will be eyeing his second successive Player of the Month title and consequently, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year in 2024.

The star Indian cricketer earned the most rating points in the longest format of the game, leaving behind other bowlers in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after a splendid nine-wicket haul in the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne, taking his tally to 907 points — one point more than his previous best of 904 points, which he jointly held with Ravichandran Ashwin. Now, he is ranked the 17th best all-time ground fielder with former English spinner Derek Underwood.
